Second Chance Vow is an angsty second chance romance that will rip your heart out and slowly put it back together. Kinley and Christian have one of those epic loves. The heartache and pain they go through tore at my heart right from the first page but the journey is well worth the fight. No one writes angst like M. Robinson and she brought that in spades. This book put me through the ringer. I felt ALL the emotions. I laughed, I swooned and cried all the ugly tears.

Christian and Kinley met as teens. They met at a difficult time in Kinsley's life and Christian became her rock. Twenty years later, they have been through some really happy times but some devastating times as well and they are not connecting any longer and are on the brink of divorce, or at least Kinley is but Christian isn’t willing to give up so easily. I loved Christian’s determination to never give up. He is that strong, protective alpha man that is so easy to fall for. Kinley has a sweet soul, but she is carrying emotional scars from her past and upbringing and has always feared losing Christian.

The thing I loved the most about this book is how real and relatable the characters are and what they went through. The way Christian and Kinley grew apart can easily happen. It may not be all hearts and flowers to work through the issues and painful parts of their past, but putting in the work in order to get back to the love the carry deep in their souls for each other was so well written.

Audiobook Review

I first read this book in November 2021 when it was released in ebook, once I found out that the story was coming to audio I couldn't wait to find out who the narrators would be and when I did I legit squealed! Christian and Kinley's love story is so epic, and unique and Sebastian York and Maxine Mitchell were the PERFECT choices to bring their characters to life. Maxine blew me away with her performance as Kinley. The level of emotion in her performance is award worthy. Sebastian York's performance as Christian was also phenomenal. He perfectly brought out Christian's dominance, protection, and fierce love for Kinley and I loved experiencing this story all over again in audio.

Bristol and Sawyer's story was the perfect ending to The Swift family series. From the moment Bristol was introduced in her brothers books, The Curve and The Closer I loved her and was excited to get to her story. She is feisty, strong, and quick witted. She is smart as a whip, driven and can hold her own against the strong men in her family. All her life she has been surrounded by sports and baseball as she has been set against dating anyone connected to the sport. However fate had other plans for her when she meets Sawyer. Their chemistry was instant and undeniable from their first meeting. Sawyer Tom, nicknamed the Cannon took me by surprise. He is a rugged sexy, handsome pitcher for the Mavericks. His upbringing has shaped him into who he is today and his story pulled at my heartstrings. As recommended by his agent, he begins volunteering for a cause near and dear to his heart and meets a young boy named Jude who is a pivotal character and one that will change everything in Sawyer's future in the best possible way. Aaron Shedlock and CJ Bloom were perfect voices to bring these characters alive. The vulnerability, emotion and strong passion in Aaron's voice were incredibly swoon-worthy and CJ Bloom does an incredible job portraying Bristol's strong confidence and tender heart perfectly. Leslie Pike concludes this series with the most perfect epilogue. Not only do we get to see where the Swift siblings are at in their lives, we also see their children all grown up and thriving and my heart was so full by the end. On the Edge by Julia Connors is the author's debut novel, and one that I devoured and really enjoyed. This is a slow burn, second chance, sports romance. After a career ending injury, Jackson is learning to cope with her new normal, both in her personal and professional life. She is now a physiotherapist and her newest client, is her ex-boyfriend Nate. After not seeing each other for five years, the moment Nate sees Jackson again, his heart is set on making things right with her. Jackson and Nate have fantastic chemistry. The deep feelings they still have for one another were evident right from the start. Nate will do whatever it takes to earn Jackson's heart back, and she is not so easily won over. I loved his determination and persistency. He wasn't giving up without a fight. I adored that about him. Jackson is hesitant at first. She trys to make him think that she is over him, and has completely moved on but this is just her way of protecting her heart. Deep down she loves him so much and never stopped. There was a lot of tension between these two, but the slow burn is so worth the wait and incredibly steamy! There were some parts of Jackson's personality that I was not a fan of. Her stubborness was overkill at some points, and grated on my nerves a touch, but it didn't at all take away from my overall feelings about the book, and was very minor. For a debut novel, this was really well written. The characters are developed well, the pacing, timing and flow of the story was also done well. I look forward to more of this author in the future.

I am loving this Swift series! In this second book in the series, we get Atticus’ brother Brick’s story. Brick has an emotional past and his journey to love was sexy, sweet and heartwarming. I just loved how meeting January healed his heart from the loss in his past. Both he and January are sports agents. While initially neither were looking for anything serious the two connect instantly and it is clear from the beginning that they were always meant to be more.

There simply isn’t anything Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell narrate together that I don’t love. I have said this before and I will say it again Joe is a powerhouse narrator. His voice is smooth and silky in those intimate moments, and raw and emotional during the vulnerable ones. Maxine did a fantastic job as January. Her voice is bright and cheery and I loved her passionate and confident delivery. Such amazing storytelling!

Bristol (the sister of Atticus and Brick) and Sawyer are up next in The Cannon and I cannot wait to listen to it next.

Beautiful Game by Lainey Davis is the fifth book in her Stag Brothers Series. It can be read/listened to standalone. I am intrigued by the other characters stories but didn’t feel lost or confused by not having read their stories previously.

Hawk is a professional soccer player, he is new in Pittsburgh as he has been recently traded. He is adjusting to a new team, and a new city and newly found siblings. Lucy is a single mom, and leaving an abusive relationship. Her priority is her and her son’s safety. She has started a new job as the fitness coach. Hawk and Lucy had fantastic chemistry. For Lucy she cannot allow her heart to get too involved due to her history with her ex and the forbidden element that she and Hawk work together. I loved Hawk’s persistence with Lucy. He was patient, protective and didn’t give up easily on Lucy’s resistance to more with him. He had such an adorable relationship with her son, and I loved the support he found amongst his brothers.

I was pleasantly surprised by the level of emotion in this book. Knowing it was a sport romance I didn’t expect this at all, and loved this aspect.

Nikola Muckajev told both male and female points of view and while it surprised me at first, I adjusted quickly and think he did a good job changing his pitch and range to differentiate the male and female roles. His voice is sexy and smooth and kept me engaged and connected to the storyline.

I look forward to more by both this author and narrator.
