Blurb:
I was born to play and bred to win.

My priorities were instilled in me early on—family and football. Those ideals led me to TGU and a coach whose ironclad principles mirrored my own.

With one last college season to play, my goal was singular—get drafted. By realizing my NFL dream,

I could save my family, our ranch, and the only home I’d ever known.

Two birds, one ball.

Playing hard was my only option, but there’s always a wild card.

For all of my planning and hard work, I never anticipated falling for the coach's daughter. Harper was a fair catch, but who knew loving her could be the one play to throw my career before it started or that the weight of our secret would change the game.

*This is book #3 of The Underdogs Series, but you can read as a stand-alone. *Formerly published in Team Player 2 but is now a 107k full length novel with an extended epilogue.

EXCERPT:

Harper

“I’ve missed you, you know? More than you can imagine.”

“Can’t imagine it at all,” he says, picking through a book he’s not reading.

“Can I help you two?” One of the store sales associates asks, and I shake my head and smile. When she takes her leave, I look over to Lance who stands fuming on the other side of a table filled with loose items. We’re in a mismatch shop full of mostly cheap junk, and I can’t imagine him finding anything for his mother here.

“Lance, I have missed you. Horribly.”

“Could have fooled me.”

I can only take so much. Irritated, I lift a designer coffee mug from the table.

“You like this for your mom?”

“No.”

“How about this?”

“Nope.” He’s not even looking at what’s in my hands.

“You sure? It’s a hide purse. Cute for a rancher’s wife, don’t you think?” This gets his attention, and stormy eyes lift to mine.

“Would you buy that for you?”

I look it over and shake my head. “Not really my style.”

“Bet it’s not.”

I can feel my ears reddening. Fuming, I eye a box on the shelf, snatch it and shove it into his chest. “How about this giant fucking purple dildo and matching anal plug!? Think mom will like that?”

He looks up completely unaffected, “Nope.”

“I don’t think we’re in the right place,” Tossing the box down, I stalk out of the cluttered shop and into the department store next to it. He’s hot on my heels.

“Got that fucking right.”

I turn back to see he’s spoiling for a fight and release a stressed breath. Fighting with him is the last thing I want to do. “Look, lets, just…” I search around and pull a sweater from the closest rack. “How about this? Simple, elegant.”

“You think Mom’s simple, huh? I’ll give her your regards.”

“That’s it.” I hook the sweater back on to the rack and close the space between us, forcing his eyes to mine. “God, you’re still a brute, aren’t you? You haven’t changed a bit. Still pig-headed as hell.”

“Pig-headed?” He opens his mouth in mock shock and covers his chest with his hand. “How dare you.”

I’m in between fight or flight, but I’ve been dodging this long enough. My heart can’t take more confrontation. I missed him too much. His eyes flare with satisfaction at my irritation. “Misery loves company, right, Lance?”

“Never said I was miserable.”

“You don’t have to. Did you come to New York just to torture me?”

“Maybe.”

“Rub it in on what I’m missing out on?”

A voice sounds from next to us. “Is there something I can help you find today?”

We both turn to the woman with lasers in our eyes, and she swallows. I clear my throat. “We’re fine. Thank you.”

Lance winks at the woman, his eyes scanning her form. “Maybe you can help me?”

“You son of a bitch,” I hiss, before walking away from the table. His voice rings out next to me as I rip through a rack of scarves.

“Good to know you care, Priss, gotta admit, it’s surprising.”

I reel on him. “Don’t you dare! Leaving you was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. I had to make a clean break. I had just lost everyone that mattered to me. I was losing my mind.”

“I got pissed for one day, and you went off the grid.”

“And you let me go because you knew no matter how much we wanted it to work, it couldn’t. You have no idea what I went through!”

“What you went through? Do you know I spent six months ranting to an Uber driver named Dave because everyone on my team hated me when the truth came out?” He stomps after me as I pull sweater after sweater off the rack. “Troy jumped ship after he got drafted. I had no one but Tony and those fights.”

I turn to him with twenty sweaters in my arms. “Jenner? When did y’all get so tight?”

“When shit got tough, and my fucking girlfriend bailed!” He glares down at me, his breaths coming out fast.

“Guys, we’re going to need you to take this outside.” A woman whom I assume is the store manager approaches us cautiously.

I look around the store and see all eyes are on us, especially the women sizing him up. “He’s available ladies,” I snap, laying the sweaters on a nearby table, “I’m willing to bet he comes really cheap.” He’s on my heels as I push through the glass of the department store.

“Oh, was I supposed to wait for you? Must have missed that memo. That’s it, you must want a saint. That’s why you didn’t stay.”

“I was twenty years old and alienated from a place I didn’t want to be anyway.”

“Good to know.”

“That’s not the way I meant it. And you know damn well until you, I was only there to appease my Dad, who I barely speak to now.”

“I’m sorry about that, I am, but that’s on him. And what in the hell are you talking about ‘alienated’?”

“Forget it.” I pull on my gloves as heavy snow starts to come down. “I think we’ve concluded our tour for today.”

He glances around the sidewalk. “Well, no need to show me more, I hate this fucking place!”

“And why is that? Not enough free-range chickens?!”

His eyes flare. “You digging on the ranch now, Priss? I saw a fucking rat the size of a cat on my run this morning!”

“Probably has better manners than you, shit head.”

“Pulling out the big guns now, huh? There’s that backbone. I was wondering where it went.”

“Go home, Lance, you hate it here. And you obviously hate me.”

“Just the opposite. It’s impossible, and believe me, I’m trying!”

“Well, I hope you succeed! Thanks for stopping by, Mary Poppins. Best Christmas ever! Make sure to bulldoze the nativity scene on your way out!”

“Fuck this.” He throws his hands up and eyes me warily before turning and walking away.

“Merry Christmas to you, too!”

REVIEW

I devoured Lance & Harper’s story. Could not put it down. Lance was a mystery to me in the Guy on the Right and I could not wait to read his story. Lance was so much more than the quiet type that he was initially portrayed as. Yes he is very reserved, very focused and doesn’t socialize much with his roommates. He keeps to himself, plays football, goes to college and the gym. But deep down there is so much more. I loved his huge heart towards his family and Harper. Harper is a dance student who is waiting for her big break to head to New York City so we know right from the start that a relationship is the last thing she wants to get in the way of achieving her dreams. She is my favourite kind of heroine. Strong, and confident. Knows what she wants and won’t let anything get in her way. My favourite thing about her was her unwavering love and support she had for Lance. It was consuming and addicting. I couldn’t get enough. The way these two characters connect as they open up to each other was so special. The enemies to lovers vibe is strong and the chemistry is intense! The couple go through some true tests to come out on the other side and I was glued to my kindle from the moment I started until I finished. It was an amazing conclusion to the Underdog Series!

Hissy Fit by Lani Lynn Vale: Audiobook Review

This week I had the pleasure of listening to the amazing Jacob Morgan and Ava Erickson narrate Hissy Fit by Lani Lynn Vale. I devoured it, I LOVED it so much!

BLURB:

He is the one that never looks her way.

He is handsome and strong.

He is rough around the edges and mean.

He is everything she's ever wanted.

He doesn't even know she exists.

Her life is a joke.

She doesn't step on cracks in the sidewalk.

She laughs at inappropriate times.

She talks when she shouldn't.

She is clumsy and trips on air.

She is finally on his radar.

God help her now.

4.5 STARS

I adored this! Lani Lynn Vale is well known for her bad boy heroes. Her motorcycle and police series come to mind so when I heard she’d be stepping out of her normal tropes and writing a small town southern romance I was excited to dive in. Ezra is a football coach and a former jock. He is popular among his students and loved by all. Raleigh is adorable, quirky and clumsy. She has had a thing for Ezra for a long while but never felt ‘seen’ by him. Their connection and chemistry was intense and addicting and off the charts steamy. I couldn’t get enough. There was a small amount of conflict with another woman but nothing unrealistic or overdone. The epilogue was my absolute favourite part of the whole book. SO BEAUTIFUL! Ava Erickson and Jacob Morgan are incredible narrators. They easily brought these characters to life with their animated voices and both did an incredible job applying the emotion and the feels. Overall I loved this, and cannot wait for the next book in the series. Thank you to Wildfire Marketing Solutions for an audio code in exchange of an honest review.

5 STAR REVIEW

Rebecca Yarros’ writing is STUNNING. This book is an emotional journey like no other. A true work of art! Be sure to have your tissues near by as there will plenty of ugly crying going on! (or there was for me anyway). Rebecca has weaved a heart wrenching story of second chance, healing, forgiveness and a deeply intense and beautiful love story.   Camden is 28 years old, and has just returned home to Alba, Colorado from the army. He has been through a lot and adjusting to civilian life wasn’t an easy one. He has some hearts to mend and has some things from his past to make up for.   Willow is Camden’s young love. He has always loved her and the moment they run into each other again you know that they have an uphill battle ahead. Willow has the most beautiful heart. She has a caring soul and is one of the only people happy to have Cam back home. The emotional connection was INTENSE with these two. I couldn’t get enough. She really fought for him through all his pain and what he was going through and I thought that was so special.  This story is so much more than romance though, the family dynamic and Camden dealing with his fathers Alzheimer’s was so real and painful. In this story there is so much for Cam to overcome. The angst and the twists and turn I did not see coming had me reeling at times but the ending is so very beautiful.  Rebecca has an incredible talent at creating these deeply connected emotional characters and I felt so attached to them I didn’t want the story to end. There is so much more I could say but to avoid spoilers I will end my review here and hope that you pick up this book to experience it all. 5+++ STARS!

Meet Rebecca Yarros

I’m a hopeless romantic and adore all things chocolate, coffee and paleo. No, seriously, I need to have a caffeine IV put in. I’ve adored reading all my life, and writing naturally evolved from my love of late nights and promises of one more page.

I’m also a military wife of sixteen years. During my husband’s deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, I was devouring a book a day, and during his third deployment, I finally wrote my own. With a somewhat ironic timing, I received my book deal for Full Measures during his fourth deployment, and published a month after he returned home. We’re currently preparing for his fifth deployment, so check out the blog for the latest!

On the homefront, we have six kids. Yes, you read that right—six. If I’m not writing or playing guitar, I’m usually tying hockey skates for our four boys, or sneaking in John Hughes marathons with my two daughters. We fostered and adopted our youngest daughter from the foster system and we’re passionate about helping others do the same through our non-profit, One October! We’re always busy navigating the winding road of our daughter’s recent autism diagnosis, getting our boys to hockey, prepping for a deployment, and generally trying to stay sane. We’re die-hard Mets fans, but our hearts call Colorado home.

If you’ve read all of that, haven’t fallen asleep, and still want to know more about me, check out my blog: http://www.rebeccayarros.com/blog!

WE ARE US BY TARA LEIGH: SNEAK PEEK

We Are Us - SP banner (1).jpg

We Are Us, an all-new “powerful and beautifully written” love story from Tara Leigh is releasing February 27th, and we have a sneak peek inside this not-to-be-missed novel!

Sneak Peek

Sounds break through my insulated cocoon of unconsciousness. Harsh sounds. Ugly sounds. Buzzing. Beeping. Humming.

The fingers of my left hand twitch with the impulse to swat at… something. An alarm clock? The television remote? But although my wedding rings slide around my finger, my arm doesn’t move. Almost as if the platinum bands have turned into lead, weighing me down.

Panic whispers at the edge of my mind, though there is no corresponding pulse of adrenaline through my veins, forcing me into action. My limbs are heavy and uncooperative.

Make it stop. Make it stop. Make it stop.

Despite my silent pleas, the unwelcome orchestra continues its assault. Buzz. Beep. Hum.

It’s been a long time since I’ve felt this awful, this lethargic. Filled with an all-encompassing exhaustion that has seeped into the marrow of my bones.

Survivor’s guilt, apparently. Sleeping the day away is preferable to facing what happened, what I’ve done. The dawn of a new day isn’t a fresh start, a new beginning.

It is a violation. A betrayal.

Make it stop.

Finally, I manage to clutch at my covers, dragging them over my head. Egyptian cotton, a thread count so high it could be spun of silk. Surely it will muffle the noise.

But something is wrong. The fabric is rough beneath my fingertips. It doesn’t smell of the lavender and verbena packets tucked into the shelves of the linen closet. And there is a sterilized stench to the air I didn’t notice before.

The whisper of panic becomes more of a murmur, then a shout. This isn’t my bed.

The beeping noises pick up, racing now. My breaths quicken, my lungs throbbing from the sharp bite of bleach with each shallow inhale.

Hospital. I am in a hospital. The buzzing and beeping and humming. Those are machines.

What happened? Think, think.

My mind is frustratingly blank even as my skin prickles with memories of another time. Another confused awakening. Another frantic search for memories. Did he… No. He wouldn’t dare. Not again. Not ever again.

Blurb:
Joey…
I wouldn’t say I ran away exactly—twenty-two is too old for that.
I’d call it self-preservation.
I have one objective: protect my heart from the boy next door who has no clue I’ve loved him my whole life, even with a front row seat to his revolving bedroom door.
My escape plan almost worked.
Except I left one thing behind.
Logan Carter hijacked my heart, and now it’s time to get it back. This time for good.

Logan…
I wouldn’t say I’ve been lying this whole time—not about everything.
Not about how much I miss my best friend, and definitely not about how pissed I am that she left with hardly a goodbye.
She’s the last person I ever expected to ghost me, and her absence left a gaping hole in my chest.
When Joey Grayson steps off that bus, I know I’ll do anything to keep her home, and that means finding out the truth.
But I’m not sure how to tell her my truths when I’m living so many lies.

Breathless is a standalone companion novel to the USA Today bestsellers Shameless and Reckless. Each book features a different couple.

REVIEW:
Ohhh my gosh! I adored this! 5 ++ STARS!! Lex Martin‘s writing is beautiful, powerful and really gets me in the feels. I had no idea what I expected when I started this one but I was completely captivated by the characters, and their story. The writing was enticing and addicting and I couldn’t get enough. I had forgotten how much I loved this series and I reconnected with the characters from the previous 2 books, Shameless and Reckless immediately. Joey and Logan have been friends forever. They grew up with one another and were always the best of friends. Joey has hidden feelings for Logan. Friends-to-Lovers stories are one of my favorite tropes in the romance genre. The connection between Joey & Logan as friends first is a beautiful one, and when it moves into more it becomes explosive. The chemistry was amazing. Logan has a huge heart. He looks after those he loves first even if it means sacrifices his own happiness along the way. Logan has a secret he is harboring and waiting for it to drop and see how it would affect what he and Joey were building was excruciating but I just knew it would all work out in the end. Joey has the sweetest, kindest heart but she had to protect it when she feels that her feelings for Logan are not reciprocated. She leaves their small town in Texas and moves to Florida but a few months later returns for Tori’s wedding. Once Logan sees her he will do everything to get answers as to why she left and will also stop at nothing to keep her from leaving again. I cannot get over the emotions and the feels that this one brought out in me, and I cannot wait for more by Lex Martin in the future.

My Bestie's Ex by Piper Rayne is OUT NOW! NEW RELEASE + REVIEW

I can’t borrow him.

He’s not a sweater or a skirt.

He’s not even her favorite dress—the lucky one she wears on first dates. The one she probably wore on her first date with him.

In my defense, I didn’t know who he was. To me, he was a cool, calm, confident stranger. He was perfection for the entire hour and a half train ride while the concrete jungle turned into a rolling green landscape.

To an outsider, we probably appeared more friends than hopeful lovers. But my blush came quickly, and his dimples indented with every smile. We definitely shared a spark of what could be.

Too bad I didn’t know who he was before I fell for him, because he can’t be mine.

REVIEW

4 STARS

Piper and Rayne are the perfect writing duo. I loved their introduction to this new series, The Rooftop Crew.  We meet Blanca Mancini in The White Collar Series as she is the baby sister of Dom, Enzo and Carm. Being Italian and having 3 older brothers she comes from a loving italian family that can be over protective at times.  Blanca has just left her job as she was feeling unfulfilled and is looking for a fresh start when she runs into her best friend from her childhood, Sierra. She moves in with Sierra and starts a new job.  Enter Ethan. The moment they meet the chemistry is instant. They have a connection and hit it off immediately but a relationship between them is forbidden for more than a few reasons. The story was an easy-read with humor and light angst. The characters were well developed and I was invested in the story from the first page, and could not put it down. PIper & Rayne are an incredible author duo and this is another fabulous read by them.

NEW RELEASE: DOMINIK BY SAWYER BENNETT

Dominik (Arizona Vengeance, Book #6)

Sawyer Bennett

Release Date: February 18, 2020

Synopsis:

I built myself up from nothing. A product of the foster care system, I learned early on how to fight hard to get what I want. Whether it was starting my first company in college, earning my first billion, or buying my first professional sports team, I know how to get what I want, when I want it.

Until now.

Willow Monahan is fierce, independent, and hot as hell. She also takes great pleasure in shutting down my advances. The younger sister of one of my star players, Willow intrigues me to my very core. And while she may have willingly given me her body, she is hesitant to offer up more. Now I’m on a mission to find out why.

I’ve decided to approach my desire for Willow like I’ve approached much of my life; with persistence, determination, and a whole lot of that Dominik Carlson alpha charm. Buying a hockey expansion team, building the Arizona Vengeance from the ground up, and bringing home a championship may prove to be an easier feat than winning Willow’s heart.

But I’ve never been a quitter.

Willow Monahan… I’m coming for you.

REVIEW

4.5 STARS

From the moment Sawyer Bennett announced she’d be writing Dominik’s story I have been dying to get my hands on it! It is no secret how huge of a hockey fan I am so when you can combine my two favourite things...hockey and romance novels I am 100% there. We have seen Dominik plenty in the previous books in the series and he left me always wanting more. He is the team owner and creator of the Arizona Vengeance Team. He is 39 years old and incredibly wealthy & successful. What I love about Dominik is  on top of all his success and wealth he has an incredible heart and soft spot for the players of his team. He also exudes confidence and sex appeal. After a one night encounter with Willow Monahan (team player Dax’s sister) he hasn’t had enough and will stop at nothing to make her his. His confidence and demanding, controlling ways were to his detriment at times but also provided some insanely sexy bedroom scenes that had my kindle burning up! Willow is a force of her own. She has a fierce, strong attitude but is dealing with a few trust issues and insecurities about commitment that get in her way at times. As I adore this series so much I loved getting to see the previous players and their significant others and catching up with them. The next book is Wylde coming out in May and cannot wait to see where his story will go after a few nuggets were dropped in Dominik. Sawyer Bennett is an incredibly talented author. Her hockey series are my favourite and I will never get enough. The way she develops her characters and the family she creates among the team and players is so incredible. The emotion I felt for Dominik during playoffs as he is watching his team get closer and closer to the Stanley Cup felt so real and I loved that. This is a must read for hockey romance fans.

A reformed trial lawyer from North Carolina,

Sawyer uses real life experience to create relatable, sexy stories that appeal to a wide array of readers. From new adult to erotic contemporary romance, Sawyer writes something for just about everyone.

Sawyer likes her Bloody Marys strong, her martinis dirty, and her heroes a combination of the two. When not bringing fictional romance to life, Sawyer is a chauffeur, stylist, chef, maid, and personal assistant to a very active daughter, as well as full-time servant to her adorably naughty dogs. She believes in the good of others, and that a bad day can be cured with a great work-out, cake, or even better, both.

Sawyer also writes general and women’s fiction under the pen name S. Bennett and sweet romance under the name Juliette Poe.
