Blurb:

Two years after the man she loved was killed in Afghanistan, Morgan Bartley is trying to put the pieces of her life back together. The reno on her dilapidated beach house in the Outer Banks might be just the distraction she needs to keep her debilitating anxiety attacks at bay and begin to heal her heart...if she can ignore the ridiculously handsome guy next door. At twenty-eight, single-dad Jackson Montgomery’s life revolves around his five-year-old daughter and his job as a search-and-rescue pilot for the coast guard. He’s no stranger to saving a damsel in distress, and though his gorgeous new neighbor is clearly in distress, she’s no damsel. She’s stubborn as hell with walls a mile thick, and the dog tags hanging from her rearview mirror give him a pretty good clue as to why. It doesn’t matter that their attraction is undeniable—she swore she’d never fall for another pilot, let alone a military man. There are some wounds time can’t heal, and some fears too consuming to conquer. She’s a barely breathing heartbreak on the edge of recovery. He’s a crash waiting to happen. Together they could have it all...if they can endure the coming  storm.

REVIEW

5+ stars!

Rebecca Yarros is one truly gifted writer, her ability to write such dynamics characters that have these huge stories and big hearts blows my mind every time. Every time I picked up one of her books I think my heart is ready but it never is. This book made me cry. Several times! In the way I love. In the way that has me feeling everything and in the end makes my heart so full and happy because of the journey the characters faced.

Will passed away 2 years ago in Afghanistan and Morgan is still in a lot of pain. She hasn’t been able to accept the heartbreak of loosing him and is stuck and suffering from anxiety attacks. She needs a change and decides to purchase a run down beach house far away from her friends and her hometown. She is hugely struggling with the fact that her friends got their happy ending but she feels cheated by Will’s death and the fact that he died saving Josh and Jagger’s lives. She feels a fresh start and a huge project that is this house is what she needs to throw herself into right now. The house is in about the same shape as Morgan feels she is in. Broken and in need of a lot of repair. My heart bled for her. Her pain and suffering truly broke my heart. Happiness for Morgan is a big complicated journey but a beautiful one in the end. There is a lot of complicated unresolved feeling she needed to work through with her friends. It is not an easy journey and there were times when I was frustrated with them (excluding Sam) and their part in her grief.

Jackson walks into Morgan’s life at the right time. She is scared, lost and depressed and does not know what to do about her feelings for him as they develop but eventually she accepts the gift that he and his daughter Finley are in her life. It is a slow build but watching their feelings develop and grow into love was so beautiful.

Jackson is incredible. The complete package and the most perfect man for Morgan. He is patient and kind and has the biggest heart you can imagine. He is a coast guard/search and rescue pilot and single dad to Finley. The moments he runs into Morgan on the beach he is immediately drawn to her. Due to his profession Jackson has a bit of a saviour complex. He is immediately drawn to Morgan and the sadness she seems to be carrying with her.

Finley was the most adorable little girl. She is the apple of her Dad’s eye. She was this big ball of joy and sunshine and her presence in Morgan’s life warmed my heart.

I absolutely adored Morgan’s best friend, Sam (from Beyond What is Given) her friendship was a blessing and she was a huge part in Morgan’s healing process. She was a tremendous support to tackling her grief and finally helping Morgan get some closure and move on.

Before starting this book I had only read Full Measures, the first book in the series. After finishing The Reality of Everything I am dying to go back and get Paisley and Jagger, and Sam and Grayson’s stories next. This book is one of Rebecca’s best and a true masterpiece. The book portrays a strong message of healing, forgiveness, acceptance and love. These characters and their story will stick with me for a long time come.
