Jay McLean never ceases to amaze me with her incredible story telling. She has penned another poignant story that will hurt a thousand times over before the good. Jamie and Holdenโs story is filled with so much angst but it is told in such a way that is raw, beautiful, heart wrenching and all consuming. If you have read this authorโs Preston Brothers series you will have met Holden in Leo but she has only just scratched the surface in that book. There were so many layers to uncover about Holden and I devoured this story in one sitting. Jamieโs character shredded my heart. As her back story is revealed I was completely gutted and the emotional hold over my heart was intense. She has endured so much more than any young person should ever have to. However she is resilient and strong and has managed to survive it all and Holden being put in her life was not what she had planned for and completely up ends things. I love the beauty in Jamie and Holdens relationship. Holden is not perfect by any means, he is facing his own battles but there were moments when I was completely blown away by their dynamic. I loved those raw completely tender moments between them. Like when he compares Jamie to a puzzle. Throughout the story she reveals small pieces to him, one fragment at a time and he feels it is up to him to figure her out entirely. In true Jay McLean fashion this book ends in one shocking cliffhanger and I cannot wait to see how it all concludes in Pieces of Us.

Pieces of Me is part two and the conclusion to Jamie and Holdenโs love story and wow did Jay McLean blow me away with it. When I pick up any book by this author I have to do a mental pep talk, to prepare for the angst, heartbreak and feels but no matter how hard I try Iโm never truly prepared. This is phenomenal story telling, character development and plot. Holden and Jamieโs story is one of this authors very best. Holden is one character that will stick with me forever. He began as a young and at times, stupid teenager but his character growth from teenage boy to young man is out of this world. He made mistakes but the love in his heart for the women in his life is so special and unique.
I said it in my review of Pieces of You but I will again. Jamie is one resilient, strong young woman. Five years have passed since the end of Pieces of You and Jamie and Holdenโs reunion will not be all hearts and flowers. Itโs going to be messy, hard, and difficult but at the end of the day the two share one of the most extraordinary loves and even through the guilt, grief and hurt I chose to believe it was still there underneath the surface.
This is a story that I never saw coming. It is truly a work of art and these characters will stay in my heart forever. This book gave me so many feels but the biggest being out of this world intense, raw emotion. The way these characters explode and implode all at once is all consuming.
As a forever fan of the Preston Brothers my heart was so happy getting to check in on Leo, Mia and Benny. I adored those moments so very much. Also Big H and Maggie!
