AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: Falling Embers by Catherine Cowles

“A top must read for 2022”
—Samantha Young, New York Times bestselling author

Falling Embers, an all-new second chance romance filled with suspense from Catherine Cowles, is available now!

I’ve loved Calder Cruz from the moment he taught me how to fly. Racing down a mountain and giving me the release I so desperately needed. My understanding. My safe space.

Hadley has fought for a life of her own ever since her sister’s kidnapping. When she was drowning in expectations and family pressures, Calder was always the one who understood her.

Until one night changed it all. From best friends to strangers in a single breath.

She’s like a fire that lives inside me. Even when I thought it was all burned out, there were still embers that lived in my bones.

Calder knows what it’s like to almost lose the people he loves most. He’ll never make that kind of mistake again. Working at the fire station and taking care of his daughters are the only things he needs.

All it takes is a single moment to make him realize how wrong he is. A split second of coming close to losing the woman he has always loved.

But as long-buried embers light anew, there are those who lurk in the shadows. And they’ll do whatever it takes to extinguish that flame for good…

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I have said this before, and I will say it again Catherine Cowles is a fantastic, exceptional storyteller. I do not know how she does it, but with every book she releases she exceeds my expectations every single time. Her beautifully flawed characters, the heart pounding suspenseful storylines, and depth of emotion are ALL consuming. I fell so hard for Hadley, Calder and his two girls, Birdie and Sage.

Hadley has loved Calder her whole life. He is her brother, Hayes’ best friend. After the kidnapping of her younger sister, Hadley’s mother has kept Hadley on a tight leash, in fear of something happening to her as well. Calder recognized Hadley’s need for an escape and gives her the freedom to be herself and the two form a special friendship. Later on Calder’s world is turned upside down, leaving him to pull away from Hadley.

Calder is a fierce protector and was devoted to his twin girls, after a horrible accident with their mother he vows to never allow anything to endanger them again. He has also closed his heart off to love, as his girls are his sole focus and priority. I fell head over heels for Calder immediately. His huge heart, devotion to his girls and love for Hadley (even though he would not admit it for quite some time) was evident right from the start. The attraction, tension and pull between them was palpable! With every look, touch and interaction, I could not get enough! Calder is a firefighter, and Hadley an EMT. After a dangerous rescue Calder is reminded how precious life is and he can no longer ignore the true depth of his feelings for Hadley. Her safety comes first, and he will do everything he can to protect her. Someone is out to get Hadley, and there were many side characters that could be the culprit. My mind was reeling as I tried to put it all together who it could be.

Calder's girls Birdie and Sage, were such darling girls. They are twins, but have completely different personalities. I adored Hadley's connection with both girls. Birdie and Hadley are loud, boisterous and crazy at times and Sage is the quiet and reserved one but they equalled each other and I loved their connection so much.

I do not think any two narrators could have been more perfect to play the voices of Calder and Hadley as Joe Arden and Vanessa Edwin. Joe's emotional range blows me away every single time and Vanessa is just fantastic with her performance of Hadley. Hadley is a strong, and independent character and the passion, and power in Vanessa's voice was so perfectly done. If you are an audiobook listener, you do not want to miss out on this epic storytelling of Joe and Vanessa bringing Catherine's words to life so beautifully!
